EPA  R22 Refrigerant Phaseout Accelerated
In January 2012, the EPA annouced that it would be revising the production limits of R22 retroactive to 2011.  This caused an immediate market disturbance when manufacturers shut down production and supplies became tight.  Within a week, the cost of R22 doubled in price and has risen ever since.  The message is clear:  the government wants to force the changeover to the new R410A refrigerant by making the older systems expensive to fix. 

Many substitute refrigerants are now available in the marketplace.  They are expensive, but we will be able to continue servicing the R22 systems one way or another.
